Entering the room, Kyara waved a goodbye to Eikko down the hall. Stepping inside and shutting the door behind herself, her jaw dropped as she looked at her bed. Jason. Yoru. Holding each other.

“But, you have a girlfriend! And that’s my-“

“Shut up! You’ll wake her if you’re too loud!” Jason hissed, glowering at her. As he lowered his voice a bit, he said, “It’s not like that at all. Don’t assume what you don’t know.”

Nodding, Kyara glanced down at Yoru, who was trembling all over in her sleep. Eventually, a few tears found their way out from under her eye lids, crashing to the mattress.

“The why are you cuddling her? Why’s she shaking like that? What’s going on?!” She stamped her foot in frustration, waiting for an answer.

With an arched eyebrow, the soccer player gave her an annoyed look. “One: I’m not cuddling her. I’m comforting her. Two: She’s had a rough afternoon. Three…” he hesitated, deciding whether or not he should tell her. “It’s not my story to tell.”

Frowning, Kyara’s concern grew more with increasing speed. How come she told Jason something she didn’t tell me? What’s going on? Throwing her bag on her bed, Kyara folded her arms under her bosom, confused.

As if repeating her thoughts out loud, she said, “Why do you know something I don’t?! It’s not fair!” Her anger was taking place of the concern she had just moments ago, eyes burning with hatred every moment she looked at Jason.

Raising his tone, the boy answered, “Well, maybe it’s because I was there? You may be her lover or whatever, but I’m her best friend. And, I’ve known her for eight years. How long have you known her?”

Jason’s words stung, giving Kyara the feeling that she’d been slapped across the face. She bit her lip to stop the quivering that was slowly beginning. Jason was right. She had only known Yoru for a little over under half a year, nowhere near the length of time Jason had.

“Sorry…” she mumbled, staring down at the floor.

Ashamed of himself for letting his temper get the best of him, Jason shook his head. “don’t be. I shouldn’t be taking my anger out on you. You weren’t the one who-“ he stopped himself, afraid to say anymore.

“Who what?” Kyara braced herself, knowing Jason might yell at her again. But she had to know. She didn’t like the way Yoru was, and had been lately.

Smoothing the pale girl’s hair back and out of her face, Jason closed his eyes for a moment. Glancing down at the dark purple bruise below Yoru’s collar bone that continued past the top of her bra, he sighed. “I…I…”

“Please? I need to know.” Kyara pleaded, her eyes grazing over the place Jason’s eyes were fixated on.

A sharp inhale escaped her lips when she saw the mark. Crossing over to the two, she sat down on the edge of the bed. Extending her arm, her fingertips brushed over the discolored patch of skin.

Unconsciously bending her head down, Kyara pressed her lips softly against the bruised skin, as if it could somehow make it all better. Picking her head back up, she locked eyes with Jason. “Where did this come from? What happened?”

Again, Jason remained silent. He felt slightly guilty that he was keeping shut like a clam, but it was for the best. I know I should probably tell her, but Yoru would kill me…That is, if she’d let herself remember. Besides, telling her could risk her as a target too. No telling with Kyle. It’s best that she doesn’t know.

“I’m sorry, but I just can’t. Leave it alone.” he said sincerely for once. Remembering something else, he added, “Oh, and I’m going to stay with you guys from now on. The school is…they’re uh…umm…” Just when he needed an excuse to get away from Kyle, he had a total mental block.

“They’re what?” Kyara asked, waiting impatiently for an explanation.

“Renovating! They’re renovating it!” Mentally grinning, he nodded over vigorously.

Searching around the room for a place that Jason might be able to live in, she frowned. The closet was crammed full with clothes and junk. Their beds and Yoru’s computer took enough space in the jungle of their room as it already was.

Shaking her head, she apologized. “I’d let you if I could, but this place is crowded enough. I don’t think you’d even be able to find a small spot on the floor.”

Cursing, the boy skimmed over everything, trying to find even the tiniest microscopic living space. Failing, he let out a sigh of defeat.

Coming up with a superb idea, the ditz smiled. “You could stay with the twins. They always have space.”

“You’re a genius!” Jason praised, wishing he could’ve thought of that himself.

“Then why don’t I know what’s wrong with Yoru? Maybe I could help!” Kyara stared longingly at the red head, her fingers twisting the bed sheets. What are you hiding from me?

Resisting the urge to scream in the overly nosey girl’s face, Jason’s eyes darkened. “Because it has nothing to do with you,” he said, his voice barely above a whisper.

Frustrated over Jason keeping everything from her, the girl stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind her, causing passersby in the corridor to stop and stare. He was being a total jerk about it. What harm could one tiny piece of information do? She had every right to know what was going on with Yoru, and he wouldn’t let up.

What had she done to be put in the dark? How would Jason like it if Kyara was the one there when something bad happened and not Jason? If she refused to tell him why Yoru was hurt?

Down the stairs and out the double doors, Kyara walked her anger off until she couldn’t walk anymore, collapsing on a nearby bench. Before she could catch her breath, she was jumping from shock. She just noticed the boy pacing back and forth in front of her.

“Are you lost?” she asked the boy, her curiosity taking over.

Stopping, the boy turned to face the person speaking to him. Taking a step forward to get a better look, he replied, “No, just thinking…”

“Oh. Well, I’m Kyara! Kyara Mitsu, to be exact.” she smiled, unable to stay angry for long. Indicating to the available spot next to her, she asked, “And you are?”

Accepting the seat, the boy ran a hand through his long brown hair. “I’m Kyle. Just Kyle.”

Eying him up and down, the blue haired girl noticed that she’d never seen him before. “Are you new here? I don’t believe I recognize you.”

Leaning his head back onto his hands, Kyle shrugged. “Yeah. Just got here a few hours ago this place is full of surprises around every corner. You’re just full of questions, aren’t you?”

Eyes lighting up brighter than fireworks against a starless sky on Fourth of July, she clapped her hands at the speed of light. Most would think her hands would’ve broken off at the wrists.

“Yep, that’s me, the Human Question Machine! And here’s another random one: Do you get lost often?”

Giving the girl a look that said ‘are you on crack?’, he answered “No, I think I can make my way around here easily.”

Slapping her hands down on the bench, Kyara gripped its edges beneath her. “LUCKY! I wish I had GPS system for a brain like you do! I remember when I had first come here - I had just met Yoru and had to get her to help me around for a week!”

Kyle had let most of the girl’s droning soliloquy go in one ear and out the other, but one word he picked up on in an instant. Yoru. Did I just hear her right?

Quickly thinking of a way to play the cards she just dealt to his advantage, he inquired, “Yoru? Who is this Yoru, if you don’t mind?”

Loaded like a role of movie film, Kyara reeled on automatically for her viewer. “She’s my room mate. She’s pretty cool, but you don’t want to get on her bad side.”

Nodding, Kyle took in every slice of information he could get. To make sure they were talking about the same Yoru, he said, “She sounds unique. Makes me wonder what she looks like in the flesh.”

“Oh, you’d recognize her instantly if you saw her. She really stands out, you know? Yoru looks totally American, even though she’s Japanese. Tall, thin, pale, bright hair, deep blue eyes…I wish I could be as gorgeous.” Self consciously glimpsing down at her body, she sighed.

Mentally grinning, Kyle leaned his face close, resting his hand under her chin. “You’re gorgeous the way you are. You don’t need any type of change in my opinion.” he breathed, his warm breath tickling the girl’s skin.

Blushing a deep shade of pink, Kyara smiled back, like a happy puppy with its chew toy. She could’ve stayed and talked on forever with Kyle. He was such a nice guy, and he made her feel…special.

Remembering that she’d promised Mika she’d be back at six, Kyara muttered something under her breath. Glancing down at her watch, she saw that she was already late.

Furrowing his eyebrows together, the brunette questioned, “Something wrong?”

Hopping off the bench, Kyara nodded rapidly. “I’ve gotta go meet Mika, and I’m already late. Sorry that I can’t stay any longer.”

“That’s cool. It was fun getting to know you. Where can I find you so we can hang out sometime?”

“Fifth floor, room E 108. You can’t miss it,” Kyara said. “It’s got posters and a dry erase board on the door.”

Standing up, he pulled the girl into a tight hug, using his gift of seduction. He didn’t even have to look down to see her blushing. He could feel the heat from the tips of her ears and cheeks. Letting go, he sat back down.

Kyara turned to hide her blush, making a mad dash for the dorms. “See you tomorrow! Night!” she called over her shoulder.

“Night to you too, Kyara!” he called back, cupping his hand to his mouth. Watching the spastic blue haired mess run off, he waited till he was sure she was gone. A heinous smile tugged at the corners of his lips, giving him a malevolent expression.

Kyara made it all too easy for him. He could hunt down Yoru anytime he wanted without a problem now. Kyle didn’t even have to lift a finger to get any of the precious information from the ditz.

All he had to do now was make a few arrangements – one of the being getting rid of Jason – and he would have the world in the palm of his hand. All he’d have to do is see Kyara a few more times, and he could have her believing every word he spoke.

Taking a moment to bask in his glory, he visualized perverse images of his prey under his control and all his. He turned his fantasies down a few notches, not wanting to get too far ahead of himself.

Standing up, he started making his way back to his room which would probably be cleared out by now if Jason knew what was best for him. Glancing up at the girls’ building with a smirk, he whispered, “E 108. That’s all I need to remember.”
